A brief history of the Club, written by Jeff & Jan Doyle (foundation members).

The image of four wheel drive owners as “road hogs or bush tearabouts” was one a group of ardent Albury four wheel drive owners hoped to change, hence the formation of the Albury-Wodonga 4WD Club,  at a meeting held at the Lavington Sports Club on 18th April, 1988.    The major aims of the club were to promote safe and responsible four wheel driving in a family orientated arena.    The club was also formed to become involved with local community activities.

In the early years some of these community activities included involvement with Clean Up Australia Day,  Camp Quality, Family Link, the Nail Can Hill Run and the restoration and maintenance of a number of Pioneer Cemeteries in the local area.

The Albury Wodonga 4WD Club had many and varied meeting places over the first 22 years, including the Lavington Sports Club, Newmarket Hotel, Sacred Heart Hall, Bandiana Golf Club, however for the past 16 years has called the K.D. Watson Hall at the Albury Showgrounds its official meeting place.

The club has maintained a membership base between 80 and 100 families over the years, with many members also contributing to the running of the club by undertaking many and varied committee portfolios.  Their contribution has allowed the club to continue to operate successfully over the past 38 years and long into the future.      Our monthly club meetings give members a chance to socialise, and social events are also held throughout the year, including pizza nights, casserole and movie nights and also two major camp outs are held during the year, the Birthday Bash and New Members’ Get-Together.
